This week I had the "pleasure" of visiting Richmond in Queensland. This small town is half way between Townsville and Mount Isa - it took me 5 hours to drive from Townsville. It is renowned for its dinosaur bones, heat and DUST!

On my long journey singing to myself, it got me thinking about the diversity of this great state we live in. I caught myself dreaming about the ocean as I travelled along the really long, straight road with no trees. The people of Richmond are happy enough now that a man made lake has been put in the town, as before that there was no body of water anywhere near them.

Nick, who has just moved there, said that if the lake wasn't there he couldn't have stayed - I'm with him! But the people are friendly and they appreciate what they do have. Living so close to the water and Moreton Island, I have become complacent. Being able to go to the beach easily and swim in calm water or surf is something to be treasured. I needed that dose of reality to truly appreciate what I have been taking for granted.
