Just about every saltwater species can be chased by the fervent anglers throughout the year and for a fishery aquatic zone so close to a major capital city, Moreton Island is in pristine condition. The channels, mudflats, open waters and sand banks provide a huge diversity of habitats that allow species such as mullet to mackerel to flourish.

Fishing Hot Spots

FishingHot spots around Moreton Island for fishing depend on what fish you like to catch. Yellow Patch is great for everything as it is semi surf and tidal. It is renowned for bream, tailor and mackerel and whiting. Harpers Rock is also another great spot and is great for rock fishing. It is located at the base of the Cape Moreton Lighthouse and the same types of fish can be caught here – including jewfish and sometimes crayfish.

Beach fishing is brilliant anywhere along Eastern beach and this is a favourite spot for many anglers.
